“There is an essential connection between art and life that can facilitate healing and change. We are interested in a new aesthetic that reflects the here and now of peoples’ authentic life experiences, rather than the beauty of a specific dance form or technique. For us, it is our real life experiences that feed our art, and our art that informs the real issues in our lives.”

Make it stand out.

When I first begun seeking therapy, it felt overwhelming and sometimes impossible to coherently verbalize some of my struggles. This is when I found a different way of speaking by expressing myself through movements, rhythms, colors, and shapes, which felt more readily accessible to me. Expressive Arts Therapy gives us an opportunity to communicate and externalize the complex, messy, and ambiguous while also engaging our imagination, reasources, subconcious, and inner resilience. Engaging with this process can expand our habitual patterns of thinking and feeling and surprise us with new, life-affirming perspectives and insights. Simultaneously, engaging with art mediums can easily become a metaphor for our lives and evoke our limitations and fears. In both scenarios we open up to an opportunity for personal growth and healing. When I first begun seeking therapy, it felt overwhelming and sometimes impossible to coherently speak some of my struggles out loud, with words.
